September - Release 1
1911: Enrollment for the fall term was underway, and the attendance looked exceptionally encouraging, considering the recent crop conditions, according to college officials. Enrollment was not expected to surpass the previous year's enrollment, largely because of a change in the course of study and the adoption of stringent admission regulations.
1931: Coach Rankin Williams was presented with the football that was used in the OBU game. The ball was autographed by every player on the team. Williams' birthday was on the day of the OBU game, and he asked the boys to win the game for him as a present. Southwestern responded with a 10-7 victory.
1941: Both Neff Hall and Stewart Halls were filled to capacity with many applicants being turned away because of lack of rooms. Enrollment at Southwestern Tech was near the 550 mark.
1951: It was announced that Southwestern would operate a kindergarten during the year. Mrs. Otis King was hired as the teacher.
1972: United Campus Ministry opened its doors to the entire Southwestern campus. The Christian fellowship was sponsored jointly by seven denominations: Catholic, Episcopal, Lutheran, Presbyterian, United Church of Christ, United Methodist and Christian. Center director was the Rev. Dick Smith.
1980: Dr. Earl Reynolds, vice president for academic affairs, told fellow Rotarians that Southwestern is now number one in the state in faculty qualifications, administrator efficiency and average teacher salaries.
