From the Desk of the President

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff:

Earlier this month approximately 65 of your fellow University stakeholders spent two days working on the first stage of the revision of our Agenda for Excellence. Their efforts resulted in the creation of two scenarios (Scenario I & Scenario II) that are being posted on this site for your review and comment. A collection of stakeholders’ comments will be added to the posting so that others may read them and respond if they so choose. Our hope is that this simplified ‘virtual forum’ will encourage our University community to comment.

In addition to the virtual forum, a series of town meetings will be conducted in communities within our service area and with other groups such as the alumni and foundation boards, legislators, state administrative staff members. Following these, the steps are as follows:

• Two afternoon sessions will be scheduled during early Fall 2004 for volunteers to first review all the input gathered from the town meetings and virtual forum.
• The next assignment is to either choose one of the scenarios or merge the two and amend them to reflect stakeholders’ input.
• The revised scenario will then become the new vision statement for SWOSU.
• The group will then formulate goals to accomplish the stated vision.
• Appointments of volunteers to action teams will then form teams to prepare initiatives for each respective goal.

Core values that govern this university, which include our pursuit of excellence, our mutual respect, our Bulldog pride, and our intellectual freedom, have led to outstanding progress on our previous planning efforts that began in 1998. As a result of that experience and achievement, I firmly believe that we can realize even greater potential this time around.

Please give this your careful attention and add your voice to the process. Carefully review the two scenarios and direct your comments to Provost Becker at Bet.Becker@swosu.edu. She will forward the comments to the Web Manager for posting weekly. Note that the scenario numbers of “I” and “II” do not reflect either priority or standing.
