What's an A.S. Degree?

This is a commonly asked question that we feel deserves a closer look. As a two year university Sayre offers one degrees that can be molded in two ways: It can be molded to graduate in two years with an Associate Degree in Computer Science and go to work or it can molded to get an Associate degree in two years and go on to some 4 year college to complete a Computer Science Degree.

The AS degree conforms to all requirements of the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education. This degree is aimed at satisfying those students who want a two year degree, but are also interested in moving on to a four-year university. In doing this we work to ensure that student's classes will transfer properly to any four-year university.

The two year degree can be molded primarily in co-occupational or technical programs. This is done by choosing electives in the AS degree and is aimed at satisfying those students who wish to go directly into the work force after completion. Many of the courses are still transferable to four-year institutions, but the electives will be evaluated individually by the institution to which they are transferred. By choosing electives in the computer area this does NOT eliminating the opportunity to attend a four-year university. You may have a little trouble transferring some of your electives, but you will still end up with an Associate Degree in Computer Science.
