IAV and OneNet
Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Sayre is one of numerous statewide hub sites for OneNet, the telecommunications and information network for Oklahoma. OneNet is in the process of linking public schools, vocational-technical schools, colleges and universities, libraries, courts, and local, county, state, tribal and federal government agencies across the state. Our Onenet hub currently provides Internet connectivity to almost all local schools and government agencies.
This association with Onenet and the latest fully interactive equipment in the Southwestern Interactive Video Labs allows students on either the Sayre or Weatherford campus to enroll in selected classes generated on the other campus. Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Sayre offers and receives many advanced courses, master's programs, nursing programs, community and employee seminars, and other programs with area vo-techs and higher education sites. Caddo Kiowa Vocational Technical Center, Redlands Community College, Western Oklahoma State College, CareerTech in OKC just to name a few. Sayre also offers several concurrent enrollment general education courses for high school sites at Ft. Cobb, Buffalo, Erick, Gary, Hammon, Hinton, Hydro, Canton, Canute, Minco, Verdon, Sterling, Timberlak, Leedey, others. A recently developed Criminal Justice program is also being offered to Sayre students. Classes are currently originating from Weatherford, Redlands Community College and Caddo Kiowa Vo-tech for this program.
Currently we are providing H.323 classrooms, which makes classes available to most schools in the area. H.323 allows the sending and receiving of video and audio via your regular T1 Internet connection. You lose a little bit of quality using H.323, but the cost of full-motion was cost-prohibitive for many schools, especially area public schools. H.323 can interface with many types of video conferencing systems to allow distance learning between users. We are currently using Polycom units and Tanberg units in as many as 8 of our video labs.
