SWOSU Campus Security

University Policy and State Law

SWOSU Campus Police is the law enforcement division of Southwestern Oklahoma State University and is authorized by State Statute, Title 74, SS 360.17.  In 1963, this state statute gave the Board of Regents authority to appoint peace officers.

Full-time officers & reserve officers have enforcement and arrest authority on the SWOSU campus. SWOSU Campus Police has a mutual agreement with the Sayre Police Department, allowing for cooperation in enforcement activities and the sharing of enforcement.

The SWOSU Campus Security is charged with the responsibility of enforcing state laws as specified in state statutes.

The SWOSU Campus Security is charged with the regulation of parking and traffic on campus according to each revised edition of the Motor Vehicle Laws.

The SWOSU Campus Security must complete the administrative duties and record keeping necessary to carry out the above functions.

The SWOSU Campus Security develops and keeps updated an internal policy manual detailing the day-to-day policies for which officers are to be held accountable.
