2007-2008 Annual Report

Kim Liebscher L.PC. is the director of Counseling Services and Tamra Misak joined the staff in September of 2007.  Tamra is currently working on her requirements for L.P.C., and will complete that process in September of 2009.

Counseling Services provides personal, academic counseling and group counseling for students.  Academic counseling is an additional service that has been added within the last year.  Kim Liebscher is the EAP provider and referral source for campus.

Counseling Services provides group counseling services prima for self esteem and one for stress management.  Also, we facilitated a campus wide depression screening event and an alcohol awareness event in the Student Union.  Practicum students from the Psychology Department assisted with these events.

Counseling Services often provides the missing piece of the puzzle for students who are at high risk for leaving SWOSU.  We support, encourage and try to instill hope is every student that comes into our office.  We work with most students on an individual basis, we provide a needs assessment and do what is possible to help the student according to their needs.  Each connection that a student establishes will increase their chances for retention.  SWOSU—The Focus is You!

Counseling Services saw a total of 914 students during 2007/08. 602 received personal counseling and 362 received academic counseling.  Last year 561 received personal counseling, academic counseling was added to our services Fall 07.
