Webmaster Notes

The November 2007 meeting was very interesting to me, so I thought I would share my thoughts on that meeting with you.

Ron Ziegler spoke about what jobs are available in the insurance industry.  He asked the audience to help him list the possible positions and here are the ones that we (the audience) and Mr. Ziegler came up with (listed in order presented):

· Internal and external auditor

· Investing

· Management

· Will usually oversee the call center and customer service departments

· Marketing

· This position is very important to the sales position because without marketing, there are little sales

· Risk manager

· Accounting—two departments, usually

· Operational for the daily tasks

· Financial for the preparing of the monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports

· Financial planning

· Information systems

· Investment Systems

· Imaging documents

· Has become more web-based

· Project managers

· Human resources

· Benefit plans

· Investors relations

· Legal department

· Handles advisement and questions on:

· Contracts

· Litigation

· Patent filings

· What to file for regulation to be met

· Government

· Lobbyists

· Public relations

· Handles how the company gets involved with the community

I hope you found this information either interesting or maybe even useful.  Have a terrific holiday season and stay safe!

PBL President News

October 31, 2007                     Hello everyone! Our next PBL meeting has changed and will be on Nov. 19th at 6:30 PM in STF 108. We will have a short general meeting and will then have a guest speaker, Ron Ziegler. I don't know exactly what he is going to talk about yet, but I will send out an update later when that is firmed up. Also (after a long search), I have found a service project for us. We are going to pick up litter is some of the Weatherford city parks on November 10th (that is a Saturday morning). I haven't yet set the time and where we will meet, but it won't be terribly early or anything, so don't get worried. But, if possible please keep your schedules clear for that morning so that we can have a good turn out. It will be a great time for our group to contribute to the community and for us to actually get to know some of the other members in our organization. More information on both of these events will be coming later, and I hope to see you all there!

November 7, 2007                  All right...I think I finally have some details for Saturday. We will meet at 9:30 AM in Means (sp?) park, the one with the city swimming pool. I will have some baked breakfast goodies and juice for us so that we can have a short meeting while we eat. If you have not yet paid your dues or turned in what events you would like to compete in at spring conference, Saturday would be an excellent time to do so. Our t-shirt is currently being worked on by Firstplace, so hopefully I will have a sample to show everyone on Saturday. No promises though! It will probably be in the 50's that morning, so dress warm. After our meeting we will clean Means and then we will carpool over to Rader and possibly another park or two to clean up, just depending on how many people we have and how fast we get done. We will be done and back at Means by 11:30. This will be a great opportunity for our group to bond and help out the community, so I hope to see everyone there on Saturday. If you can come, please let me know. Thanks!

November 15, 2007                 Just a quick note to remind everyone that our meeting is this Monday night, November 19th, at 6:30 PM
in STF 108. After a short general business meeting we will be having a guest speaker, Ron Ziegler, to speak to us about the insurance
and annuity industry. Even if you are not particularly interested in working in this industry, he will still have pertinent information for
everyone, as we will all need to deal with one or both of these products throughout our personal and professional lives. Hope to see
everyone there!

Tue, Feb 26, 2008                                 All right everyone...the long awaited School of Business and Technology shirts are ready (thanks to our dedicated graphic artist - April Dodson). I have attached the order form - please drop off order forms and money with Erin Hawkins in STF 334. We are going to take our order into the printer on March 7th (a week from this Friday). The proceeds from these shirts are going to help keep out of pocket costs down for conference - so please print off order forms and get orders from friends, family members, and professors. I still don't have a date set for our next meeting, but we will definitely be having one before conference.
