WebDAV on Windows XP

The following step-by-step instructions will allow you to create a web folder on a Windows XP machine to access faculty personal web pages.

  • Double-click on the "My Computer" icon on your desktop.
  • There should be a "My Network Places" link on the left, click on it
  • You should see an icon that says "Add Network Place"
  • Click "Next" at the opening screen.
  • Select "Choose another network location" from the window and click "Next."
  • At the " Internet of network address" prompt type in the following URL:

    https://secure.swosu.edu/Faculty/firstname.lastname

***Be sure to use 'https' instead of just 'http' when logging in to manage your files. The 'https' protocol allows you to manage your files with a secure certificate, while just using 'http' does not use the secure mode.

(replace firstname.lastname with your SWOSU username)
  • Click on " Next "
  • It should prompt you for your username and password. Your username in this case will be your email address (firstname.lastname@swosu.edu) and your password is the same password as your email password.
  • At the "Type a name for this network place" prompt you may enter an alias for your web folder.
  • Click on "Finish".
  • You'll be prompted one more time for your username/password.
  • You may now click and drag the files that are ready to be published to the web into this folder.

After you setup your web folder, you will only have to do

  • Double-click on the " My Computer " icon on your desktop.
  • There should be a " My Network Places " link on the left, click on it.
  • You should see the web folder you created in the steps above.
  • Double-click into your folder and you will be able to manage your files.
