Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)
The TEAS is designed to determine the academic readiness of applicants to post-secondary education programs, and may be used as one criterion to aid screening or selection of students into nursing programs. It is also used to evaluate the academic preparedness of students entering nursing school who may need additional support to meet the academic demand of the program.
The TEAS measures basic essential skills in the academic content area domains of Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Nursing considers the content areas of math and reading, and total Score when determining entrance into the program.
The Math subtest measures knowledge of whole numbers, metric conversions, fractions and decimals, algebraic equations, percentages and ratio/proportion.
The Science subtest covers science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology, basic physical principals and general science.
The English subtest measures knowledge of punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure, contextual words and spelling.
The Reading subtest covers paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension and inferences/conclusions.

TEAS Pre-Test Study Manual
The study manual is written specifically to address the needs of students preparing to take the TEAS or those who need additional help after testing. The study manual includes review material key topics in Reading, Mathematics, Science, and English and Language Usage. Practice exercises and sample tests are provided following the review material for each section.
TEAS Online Practice Assessment
The Online Practice Assessment is available for students desiring additional test preparation. The online practice assessment includes 100 items designed to be reflective of the TEAS in both content and format. In order to maximize the learning experience, each item is accompanied by detailed rationales for all correct and incorrect responses chosen. For a complete student preparation package, the TEAS Online Practice Assessment, and the TEAS Study Manual may be purchased at the ATI Testing website. In addition, the Southwestern Oklahoma State University library has a copy of the Study Manual on reserve for student review.
ATI Testing is administered through the Assessment Center. The test may be taken three times in 12 months, waiting 14 days between testing. Cost for each test is $70. For further information please contact your advisor.

All prospective nursing students must submit verification of TEAS scores by the application deadline (first Monday in February). The test must have been completed within the last three years.

The fee for each TEAS is $70. The TEAS may be taken three times within a 12-month period with a waiting time of 14 days between each test.
