  1. The meeting was called to order at about 1:35 p.m. Ruth Boyd attended as an invited guest in place of Judy Haught.
  2. Minutes from the October 7, 2013 meeting were reviewed. Kelley Logan made a motion to approve, Jared Edwards seconded, and the motion passed.
  3. The new Gen. Ed. program (effective Fall 2015) was discussed under the guidance of Ruth Boyd. There was discussion that students should be required to pass required remedial courses before being allowed to enroll in subsequent courses.
  4. Jan Kliewer announced the following:
    1. CAAP is currently being administered to Junior and Senior volunteers. There will hopefully be more value-added results when compared to specific examinees that also took CAAP as freshmen. There was discussion of administering it in the future during capstone courses or during something like a Sophomore capstone, etc. Until we are able to administer CAAP to captive audiences, we will continue to offer it to volunteers (until further notice).
    2. Spring 2014 NSSE and Noel-Levitz Student Satisfaction Inventory reports are available online.
    3. New tracking study ideas that would produce useful information:
      1. How CANVAS promotes student learning and success.
      2. Satisfaction and student engagement of diverse students (international students, minority students, religion, first generation college students, students receiving scholarships/pell grants, etc.) A decision is tabled until the next meeting.
  5. Dr. Monica Varner was introduced as the Associate Provost and member of the committee. She introduced and discussed new Assessment needs:
    1. As required by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) for University accreditation. HLC will require more frequent and timely assessment reporting in between the comprehensive reports, and departments may be required to provide student learning outcome assessment reports which are more substantive and HLC-compliant in the near future.
    2. For enhancement of Student Learning.
  6. There is still interest in helping international students, and other diverse students, with accommodations based on the language barrier, etc. This is tabled for a future meeting.
  7. We will make plans for a Summer 2015 committee meeting.
  8. The meeting dismissed at about 3:55 p.m.
