SWOSU Students and Best Cooks Win Prizes at Parents Day
Three Southwestern Oklahoma State University students each won $1,000 scholarships this past Saturday at Parents Day activities on the Weatherford campus, and winners of the SWOSU Tailgate Challenge featuring a BBQ theme collected cash prizes.
Area businesses and the SWOSU Foundation worked together to make possible the scholarship giveaway. Students and their parents registered throughout the day at participating businesses.
Winners of the scholarships were:
- Madison Cook, Altus, daughter of Perry and Christa Cook, signed up at Caulkins Conoco
- Theresa Stein, Weatherford, daughter of Anne and Tony Stein, signed up at The Kloset
- Luke Kinder, Carnegie, son of Kim Kinder, signed up at NAPA Auto Parts
Trinity Baptist Church of Weatherford won $500 and first place in the SWOSU Tailgate Challenge Cook-off that takes place before each home football game. It was the second straight win for Trinity Baptist Church. Winning $200 and second place was the SWOSU Computer Club, while winning $100 and third place was the SWOSU Chemistry Club.
The Residence Life Department sponsors the contest, which is open to the public. Each home game features $800 in prize money. The next contest Saturday, October 6, and will have a theme of “Fiesta Tacos.” For more information on the challenge, call 580.774.3024.
