Coming Out Stories Workshop Planned Wednesday at SWOSU

The Gender and Sexual Minorities Project, the LGBTQIA+ club at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, will host its first Coming Out Stories Workshop this Wednesday, October 10, on the Weatherford campus.

The public forum will be held in Stafford Center Room 104 from 6 -9 p.m. The public is invited.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate and support individuals from the LGBT+ and ally communities as they share their coming out experiences.

“We hope this emotional, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, event will inspire, educate and lead to greater understanding of all gender and sexual minorities,” said GSM Project Public Relations Officer Tana Heap of Birds.

The Gender and Sexual Minorities Project recently changed its name from the Sexual Orientation and Diversity Association. Created in the 1970s, and sponsored for many years by Dean of Students Cindy Dougherty, the club continues to provide a safe space for LGBTQIA+ students and members of the Custer County community.

The club is focusing this school year on community outreach through various workshops and educational events. In addition, the club hosts weekly meetings as well as a variety of social and friendly miscellaneous events. The club meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m. in SWOSU’s Stafford Center Room 110.
