Southwestern Oklahoma State University President Randy Beutler in Weatherford recently served as a panelist at a session of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) Higher Education Government Relations Conference held in New Orleans.
The panel discussion—Presidential Perspectives: How Can Higher Education Be More Competitive in State Capitals—featured Beutler, Louisiana State University President F. King Alexander and Stark College (OH) President Para M. Jones.
College presidents and state system leaders are often the most influential voices for public colleges and universities, with the ability to share a compelling vision of the institutions and their role in helping regions grow and states succeed.
The trio of presidents discussed successful advocacy strategies, how government relations professionals can work more closely with presidents, strategies for elevating higher education as a state budget priority and insights into how government relations professionals can work in concert with presidents to achieve the best results for institutions and systems of higher education.
The conference is an annual event hosted by AASCU.
