SWOSU Student Body Electing New Officers
Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s student body in Weatherford will elect new officers for the 2020-21 school year during an online election this Thursday, April 16.
The election will take place on the university’s course management system—Canvas.
Candidates are: President—Natalie Kinder, Arapaho sophomore. Vice President—Trey Gooch, Oklahoma City. Treasurer—Connor Belknap, Bethany; and Riley Smith, Arnett.
This was the first year that candidates campaigned totally online and through virtual Student Government Association meetings rather than hanging posters around campus and setting up booths in the Memorial Student Center.
“The SGA is moving forward for the upcoming academic year,” SWOSU Dean of Students Joshua Engle said. “Leadership has been flexible with the current COVID-19 climate and that helps when significant events like this happen. I’m proud of our students and how they’ve responded to the challenges.”
Even while students are away from campus, student activity offices are hosting online events to engage with students and remain close.
“The students love campus and we miss seeing their faces,” Engle said.
The Dean of Students office hosted a Disney Trivia night with the top three students winning gift cards and gift bags. Also, a Marvel Infinity Gauntlet Trivia event was held.
Oliver Willis, coordinator for student activities, said university personnel will continue planning events and staying in touch with students.
