SWOSU Hosts First eSports Tryouts

eSports tryouts
The first-ever tryouts for the SWOSU eSports program were recently held on the Weatherford campus. Twenty-two students took part. Additional tryouts will continue this semester and early spring.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University hosted its first tryouts for eSports on October 3 with 22 students taking part in the first round of competition.

Out of the 22, three students—Tanner McMullin of Clinton, Joseph Nguyen of Tulsa (Union) and Ethan Abrahamson of Mustang--were selected to represent SWOSU at an upcoming intercollegiate tournament. More tryouts for Super Smash Bros will continue this semester and early spring.

The tryouts took place at the Pioneer Cellular Event Center since the university is in the early construction stages of an eSports arena that will be in the Wellness Center on the Weatherford campus.

Coach Hayden Harrington, Devin Smoot and Director Joshua Engle were all pleased with the event and even more excited for upcoming activities.

The future eSports arena at SWOSU will house the program and showcase student talents while hosting competitions.
