Two new scholarships have been established for Southwestern Oklahoma State University pharmacy students in Weatherford because of generous gifts made by Bryan and Deanne Hammons of Kennedale (TX) and Vonya Streetz of Oklahoma City.

Two new scholarships have been established for Southwestern Oklahoma State University pharmacy students in Weatherford because of generous gifts made by SWOSU pharmacy alumni.

The Bryan and Deanne Hammons Humanitarian Scholarship was established by Bryan (1985 graduate) and Deanne (1986 graduate) of Kennedale (TX). Bryan, originally from Aubrey (TX) is senior clinical account executive with Express Scripts, and Deanne, originally from Laverne, is a pharmacist with Guardian Pharmacy Services. They have two adult children (son and daughter) and three grandchildren. Bryan has participated in many medical mission trips and said that he has found it a great way to give back to people living in areas that are unserved or underserved with medical care. He said that he and Deanne’s hope in creating this scholarship will encourage students to look for areas of service where they can use their skills and talents to serve others.

Additionally, the Vonya N. Streetz Scholarship was established for a student interested in clinical or hospital pharmacy. Streetz, a 2017 pharmacy graduate from Oklahoma City, is a medicine clinical pharmacy specialist at INTEGRIS Baptist Medical Center. When not working as a pharmacist, she participates in an elementary school mentorship program through INTEGRIS and volunteers with her church’s community service outreach.

“This scholarship is just one way that I can say Thank You to the SWOSU College of Pharmacy, and also, hopefully, inspire others to pave the way forward,” Streetz said.

SWOSU College of Pharmacy Alumni and Development Director Patti Harper said the need for scholarships continues, and the College of Pharmacy is grateful for these new scholarships, which are administered by the SWOSU Pharmacy Foundation.

The Pharmacy Alumni Foundation was incorporated in 1974 for the overall purpose of supporting the educational endeavors of the SWOSU College of Pharmacy.
