SWOSU Creates New Academic Support Center
*** Broken component *** *** Broken component *** Southwestern Oklahoma State University has created an innovative program for academic assistance for SWOSU students on the Weatherford and Sayre remote locationes.
The Academic Support Center (ASC) brings together services from Retention Management, Student Success Center and Career Services into one office. With these services in one place, students can receive pre-advising assistance, career exploration services, academic tutoring, peer mentoring and academic coaching from a professionally trained staff in each of these areas.
“The program will increase SWOSU’s efforts in supporting students through a variety of academic services in one centralized location,” said SWOSU Associate Provost Dr Joel Kendall. “By combining efforts of three crucial programs, we can meet SWOSU’s strategic goal of increasing student retention and completion.”
The ASC offices are in Stafford Center Room 250. Future plans include a nearby computer center for students to access. Staff from the Student Success Center will move to STF 250 from its previous location in Parker Hall.
Dr. Wendy Yoder will be the director of the ASC. Yoder is an alumnus of SWOSU. She completed her M.Ed. in Secondary Education in 2008 and earned her Doctorate in Education in 2019. While at SWOSU, she has worked in the Dean of Students Office, served as the violence prevention project coordinator and is the current academic advising and retention coordinator.
Heather Hummel will serve in the ASC as the career exploration coordinator, moving from her position as career services coordinator in the Office of Enrollment Management.
