Black Student Union Being Formed at SWOSU

A newly established Black Student Union has been started by the Student Government Association at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Lisa R. Boye of the SGA said the Black Student Union is recruiting members to join the leadership team and organization.

“This organization is important to create inclusion and diversity on our campus,” Boye said. “The goals of BSU are to create unity, provide an interactive space for students, raise racial and diverse awareness and educate the community.”

Some of the ideas that have been circulated include:  Black History Every Day, open table talks on racial matters and pop culture, hair tutorial, and the creation of a Black sorority and fraternity.

Leadership positions being formed include president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, public relations, program planner and spokesperson.
