Relay for Life is Back and Scheduled for April 9 at SWOSU

The Relay for Life movement is the world’s largest fundraising event to save lives from cancer, and the Relay for Life of Beckham and Custer counties is scheduled this year on Friday, April 9, on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Teams of people are invited to sign up and participate in the American Cancer Society event that will be held outdoors from 6-9 p.m. at the SWOSU Clock Tower and south lawn.

“Each year, we celebrate people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones, and take action for lifesaving change,” said Veronica Aguinaga, assistant professor in the SWOSU Department of Education. “We would be honored to have you join us at this year’s event as a survivor, caregiver, volunteer, sponsor or guest.”

The funds raised through Relay for Life will help honor survivors, remember loved ones, and support those who are currently receiving treatment along with their caregivers. There will be lots of fun activities for the entire family, according to Aguinaga.

Individuals who would like to form teams, follow these easy steps:

  1. Invite your organization members, department colleagues, friends, or family to join your team and sign up for a team @ https://secure.acsevents.org/site/STR?pg=entry&fr_id=99251.
  2. Download the American Cancer Society FUNdraising app to utilize the text and email function to seek out donations.
  3. Decide on a fundraiser and raise $!

For individuals that cannot make a commitment to participate but want to donate, Aguinaga suggests consideration of purchasing a luminaria bag that will be featured at the event.
