Tugba Sevin Earns Diversity & Inclusion Award at SWOSU
Dr. Tugba Sevin, associate professor of Spanish and Italian, is the recipient of a “Tier 1 – Developing Supportive Spaces” Award as part of Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Diversity & Inclusion Professional Development Program on the Weatherford campus.
SWOSU Dean of Students Joshua Engle recently presented the award to Sevin.
“Dr. Sevin has a strong mission to support SWOSU students. Not only does she instruct, offer guidance and professional development experiences, Dr. Sevin just expanded her efforts by adding discussion modules to her Italian course to enhance or further support students’ understanding of cultures outside the United States,” Engle said. “This project is an excellent example of very thoughtful and simple additions that can elevate coursework and provide more depth to what students are learning.”
Engle said he appreciates Dr. Sevin as she has been very supportive of students and is motivated to serve SWOSU. Sevin completed all D & I trainings and then developed the project to give back to SWOSU and support marginalized populations.
“We thank Dr. Sevin for continuing SWOSU’s mission of ‘respect, by fostering a safe, healthy and diverse intellectual, cultural and social environment that encourages emotional well-being,” Engle said.
