SWOSU & Weatherford Rotary Club Establish World Languages Scholarship
Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) and the Weatherford Rotary Club have announced the latest in a long history of philanthropic collaborations: the establishment of the SWOSU-Weatherford Rotary Club World Languages Scholarship.
This scholarship was proposed by Dr. Tugba Sevin, World Languages coordinator in the SWOSU Department of Language & Literature, and will benefit students studying in the Department of Language & Literature who have designated World Languages as a minor degree component.
“The SWOSU World Languages minor is a growing and engaging part of what we offer students here at SWOSU Language & Literature,” said Tugba, an associate professor at SWOSU and Weatherford Rotarian. “This scholarship will provide our students with invaluable financial assistance, and our entire department is so grateful to Weatherford Rotary and the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. for making it possible!”
Sevin reported that over 70 SWOSU students are currently minoring in World Languages.
“On behalf of our Board of Directors I would like to thank SWOSU Foundation, Inc. for this opportunity to work together yet again in furthering the ideals and goals of Rotary International,” said Weatherford Rotary Club President Nate Downs. “Students who study World Languages are increasing their understanding of different cultures and views and are helping advance the Rotary cause of toleration, peace and international cooperation.”
The SWOSU-Weatherford Rotary Club World Languages Scholarship is stewarded by the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. The Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU. Located on the Weatherford campus in the historic Burton House, the Foundation currently stewards over $26 million in assets for the benefit of SWOSU.
