OK National Guard Pays Helicopter Visit To SWOSU

The Oklahoma Army National Guard (OKARNG) spent Friday on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford as part of a community outreach event for western Oklahoma where local area educators had the opportunity to fly in a CH-47 Chinook helicopter around campus.

Among those who had the opportunity to fly were SWOSU President Dr. Diana “Diane” R. Lovell and Assistant Vice President for Strategic Partnerships Chad Kinder.

Prior to taking off, all visitors and community members present had the ability to take pictures and get inside a pair of helicopters brought to campus by the National Guard. Area educators were then briefed for safety and information and taken on a flight around Weatherford. Takeoff occurred east of Mann Hall.

SWOSU offers a Guard Officer Leadership Development (GOLD) Program to Oklahoma Army National Guard Soldiers who attend SWOSU. The program was created on November 8, 2007, as a collaboration between the Oklahoma National Guard and SWOSU. This program was instituted to develop future federally commissioned officers for the OKARNG.
