Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) in Weatherford recently competed in an aerospace design competition and exposition, and the SWOSU Fire Dawgs came away with some impressive awards.

Speedfest challenged SWOSU students to design and build an autonomous fire truck that could navigate a course using sensors and GPS coordinates with a goal of finding and extinguishing a fire. This was SWOSU’s fire truck.

The SWOSU Fire Dawgs won the main race in the Charlie class at the 11th annual Speedfest held in Stillwater. The team also placed second for their overall design.

This was the first year SWOSU had an entry at Speedfest.

The competition challenged students to design and build an autonomous fire truck that could navigate a course using sensors and GPS coordinates with a goal of finding and extinguishing a fire. The SWOSU entry came closest to the fire and set the fastest time.

The Fire Dawgs were funded primarily through grants from the Oklahoma NASA Space Grant Consortium with additional support from the SWOSU Everett Dobson School of Business and Technology.
