SWOSU Students Organize Successful Blood Drive

Southwestern Oklahoma State University students have had another successful blood drive.

A total of 243 people volunteered to give blood at the February drive held on the Weatherford campus. The drive is sponsored by the SWOSU Student Government Association, and chairperson is Amanda Sampley.

According to Oklahoma Blood Institute consultant Michelle Stinson, blood products are being used by patients undergoing treatment for many reasons, such as cancer, burns, trauma, major surgeries and organ transplants. The OBI serves over 100 Oklahoma hospitals.

Stinson praised the SWOSU students for their efforts. Among the participants in the February drive were members of the SWOSU football team, coached by Ryan Held. The new SWOSU coach allowed his players the opportunity to do a community service project by donating blood.

The next SWOSU blood drive is set for April 11 and 12 on the SWOSU campus.
