SWOSU Students Selected for Honor Band

Sixteen Southwestern Oklahoma State University students at Weatherford have been selected to perform with the Oklahoma Intercollegiate Honor Band on January 19 in Tulsa.

The concert will take place during the convention of the Oklahoma Music Educators Association at the Tulsa Convention Center. The band will be conducted by Dr. Tom Leslie, director of bands at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Members of the band were selected on the basis of director recommendation, school classification and school representation. The band will have representatives from almost every Oklahoma university or junior college band program. The students rehearse together for two days and perform a difficult program.

“This concert is one of the highlights of the OMEA convention each year,” said Dr. James South, director of bands at SWOSU. “It is a tremendous opportunity for professional growth and a great chance to represent the SWOSU band program. We are very proud of these students.”
