Collins Named Visiting Professor at USC

The University of South Carolina has named Southwestern Oklahoma State University English professor Kevin Collins as the William Gilmore Simms Visiting Research Professor for 2006.

Dr. Collins will spend this summer conducting research in the Simms Collection at the South Caroliniana Library on the USC campus in Columbia.

William Gilmore Simms (1806-1870) was among the most prominent and prolific American authors of the 19th century, and most of his surviving manuscripts and correspondences are housed at the South Caroliniana Library.

Collins, an associate professor at SWOSU, has lectured and published extensively on Simms, and he edited in 2003 the first new edition in 144 years of Simms’s novel, The Cassique of Kiawah.
