Mingura Wins AAUP Scholarship at SWOSU

Corey Mingura, a Hollis sophomore English major at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, is the recipient of a $300 scholarship granted by the SWOSU chapter of the American Association of University Professors.

Mingura has a minor in history and is maintaining a 4.0 grade point average.

As part of the selection process, each applicant had to write an essay on a book that has influenced him or her. Mingura wrote about Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. In his essay, Mingura focused on the story's treatment of imperialism. Mingura will receive his scholarship this fall, according to Dr. John Hayden.

A scholarship committee comprised of three SWOSU professors, who are also AAUP members, reviewed the scholarship applications. Dr. Jill Jones is currently the president of SWOSU's AAUP chapter, and she will be succeeded by Dr. Jerry Dunn this fall.
