SWOSU Homecoming Winners Announced


Winners of the various competitions held during Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s homecoming celebration on October 28 in Weatherford have been announced.

At the parade, SWOSU’s Residence Life won first place and $1,300 in the float competition. Kappa Delta Omega sorority won second place and $800, while Psychology Club finished third and won $500.  The prize money was sponsored by the SWOSU Alumni Association, SWOSU Student Government Association and several Weatherford financial institutions.

In the marching band contest, Pond Creek-Hunter was named the outstanding band in the high school competition, and Watonga 7th/8th Grade School won top honors in the junior high band competition. Each band won $250 from the SWOSU Student Government Association.

Other band winners were: Junior High Class 8-2A—Watonga 7th/8th Grade School, first place. Junior High Class 9-2A—Drumright Edison Junior High, first place. Class A High School—Pond Creek-Hunter High School, first place; and Corn Bible Academy, second place. Class 2A High School—Sayre High School, first place; and Lexington High School, second place. Class 3A High School—Weatherford High School, first place.

In the annual bed race competition, Rogers & Jefferson Hall won the race, while Stewart Hall won the best decorated bed contest. Kappa Gamma Beta finished second in the best decorated bed competition.

Neff Hall won first place and $300 in the Residence Hall decoration contest. Rogers & Jefferson Hall finished second and won $200 and Stewart Hall finished third and won $100.

In the outside decorations competition for organizations, the Technology Education Collegiate Association won first place and $300. The Biology Club finished second and won $200.  

The Assessment Center won the staff/faculty contest with its office display.

And, Ashley Slemp of Gracemont and Sheldon Webb of Cordell were crowned Homecoming Queen and King during halftime of the SWOSU football game.
