SWOSU Art Students Selected for Momentum

Five Southwestern Oklahoma State University art students at Weatherford have been selected to participate in an upcoming art competition/exhibition in Oklahoma City.

Momentum will be held January 12-13 in Oklahoma City, and SWOSU will be represented in the juried show by Ana Diaz of Bethany (PC West), Chris Gonzalez of McAllen (TX), Autumn Wright Wood of Oklahoma City (PC North), Jed Shaw of Woodward and Sarah Jrab of Yukon.

Over 200 artists submitted their work and only 181 pieces of art were selected. The show will be held from 8 p.m. until 12 midnight both nights at the Downtown Airpark in downtown Oklahoma City at 1701 S. Western Street.

SWOSU Art Assistant Professor E.K. Jeong introduced the SWOSU art students to Momentum in 2005. She encouraged all art students to enter. That same year three SWOSU students were accepted into the juried exhibition. In the summer of 2006, Jeong was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Visual Art Coalition and was a juror for the Momentum show in Tulsa.

OVAC started the Momentum exhibition and event in 2001 to give artists 30 years and younger the opportunity and experience of preparing for an exhibit.  The name Momentum was chosen to symbolize the event’s purpose, which is to give young artists recognition and the momentum to start their art careers.?OVAC hosts Momentum OKC every January and Momentum Tulsa every June.
