Physics Banquet This Saturday at SWOSU

Royce Snider

Southwestern Oklahoma State University Physics will host its 25th annual Physics Alumni and Awards banquet this Saturday, April 21, at 7 p.m. in the SWOSU Conference Center on the Weatherford campus.

The evening will include dinner, recognition of returning alumni and retired faculty, and induction of new Sigma Pi Sigma (physics honor society) members.  Various students will be recognized for scholarship and service. Among the awards will be SWOSU Foundation Scholarships for 2007-2008, supported by the generosity of alumni and friends of the physics program.

Guest speaker for the evening will be 1991 alumnus Royce Snider of Haslet, Texas. He is senior engineering specialist with the Acoustics Group of Bell Helicopter. He will speak on “Rotocraft Noise and Vibration.” He has over 15 years experience in the development and demonstration of aircraft noise and vibration control technologies.

Over the span of his career, Snider has managed multiple IRAD and CRAD programs and authored various technical specifications supporting the BA609 Tiltrotor Analytical Integration IPT.  Snider participated in the highly successful joint NASA/Army/BHTI flight test program.  During this test program, the XV-15 tiltrotor aircraft was flown over a large area microphone array deployed near Waxahachie, TX.  While maintaining handling qualities and safety under IFR conditions, approach profiles were designed achieving a noise reduction of 6 dB or more, a Level 1 Milestone of the Short Haul Civil Tiltrotor Program.
