Two SWOSU Jazz Ensembles to be Featured April 20


Two Southwestern Oklahoma State University jazz ensembles will present a free concert of jazz music on Sunday, April 20, on the Weatherford campus.

The 3 p.m. concert will be held in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the SWOSU campus. Admission is free, and the public is invited.

SWOSU Jazz Ensemble “A” and SWOSU Jazz Ensemble “B,” both directed by Dr. Keith M. Talley, will be showcased.

The concert will feature big band charts made famous by the Jimmy Lunceford Orchestra, Duke Ellington, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton and many others. Music numbers will include Satin Doll, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, On Green Dolphin Street, Groovin’ Hard, Harlem Nocturne, Bones Alone, Avalon, The Nearness of You, Doxy and Malaguena.

SWOSU students featured in the performance will be: Adriel Reynolds, Lawton; Thomas Burns, Altus; Michael DePew, Mustang;  Josh Dodson, Perryton, TX; Timothy Martin, Woodward; Keith Medders, Grove; Travis Henson, Yukon; Ann Gammenthaler, Broken Arrow; Daisy Edwards, Plainview, TX; Sean Wright, Moore; Christopher Hall, Enid; Josh Buxton, Hinton; Braden Boily, Enid; Garrett Rodriguez, Stinnett, TX; Mark Smithey, Alva; Stephen Myers, Mustang; Erich Spaeth, Harrah;  Ja'Nell Huff, Enid; Nolan Lawless, Weatherford; Misty Schumann, Midwest City; Eric Martin, Weatherford; James Edwards, Plainview, TX;  Jacob Heck, Washington; Danielle Walker, Edmond; and William Morse, Sterling. SWOSU faculty members Dr. James South, trumpet, and Janis South, horn, will also be featured.
