SWOSU Students to Celebrate Constitution Week

Southwestern Oklahoma State University students in Weatherford are preparing to celebrate Constitution Week with a variety of activities.

Keenan Haught, freshman from Elk City, is chair of the celebration. Among the events planned are a character portrayal, movies, Constitutional discussion, signings and essay contests.

Collegiate Activities Board members will wear name tags of the 38 members of the Constitutional Convention and when asked about their 1777 character, the students will answer questions as the character they portray.

The movies and Constitutional discussion will take place this Tuesday, September 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the University Grill. There will be free popcorn and cokes. Freshman Miles Myers of Mustang will lead the discussion. Then, the movies National Treasure I and Legally Blonde II will be shown.

SWOSU students will have Constitution signings at the Stafford Center and area schools from September 15-19. Each person who participates will receive a free pocket Constitution.

Deadline for the essay contests is September 19. Area students are invited to write essays on the topics:

  • My Constitution
  • Where I Saw the Constitution Work
  • What the C Means to Me
  • Threats to the Constitution

The essays should be turned in to the Dean of Students Office in the Stafford Center. Judging will be done by SWOSU political sciences students, chaired by Alyssa Chapman of Saskatoon, Canada. Additional information is available by calling 580.774.3767.
