Wilkerson to Speak at SWOSU PLC Banquet

Tickets are now available for area residents who would like to attend the President's Leadership Class banquet at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Former Oklahoma Senator Dick Wilkerson will be guest speaker at the Monday, April 20, event on the SWOSU campus.

Beutler invites area residents to the presentation. At the banquet, SWOSU's third PLC will be honored and new members of the fourth class will be introduced for the first time that evening.

Wilkerson, a state senator for 16 years, was once the deputy director of the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.  He participated in the investigation of more than 180 homicides while with the OSBI.  Wilkerson worked in the Narcotics and Intelligence Divisions of the OSBI as well as other general assignments.  He and his brother, Mike, authored the best selling and critically acclaimed book, Someone Cry for the Children: The Unsolved Girl Scout Murders of Oklahoma and the Case of Gene Leroy Hart.  The book details the investigation of the 1977 Girl Scout murders in Locust Grove.

During his tenure in the Oklahoma Senate, he served as chairman of several committees including: Public Safety and Judiciary Sub-Committee on Appropriations; Finance Committee; Tribal Relations Committee; the Oklahoma Sentencing Commission; and the Criminal Jurisprudence Committee.  Wilkerson authored the Oklahoma Drug Court Act, the Oklahoma DNA Act and the Methamphetamine Reduction Act among many others.  He currently lives in the country near Meeker, but still maintains his childhood home near Atwood.
