SWOSU Planning 5K Run and Walk to Benefit Cancer Society


SWOSU will host the "Tough Enough Classic 5K Run/Walk" on Saturday, March 27, on the Weatherford campus, and entries are now being accepted.

The 9 a.m. run/walk will benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Runners and walkers are expected from several states including Kansas, Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma.

Entry fee is $35 if pre-registered, and a free brunch will be held after the race/walk. Non-runners/walkers can enjoy the brunch for $5. Race day registration fee is $50.

"We have gone from raising $3600 in our first year of the race to over $12,000 last year," said race chair Britnee Goure. "Last year 86 people participated despite over an inch of snow."

Goure said one participant from each residence hall on the SWOSU campus will be given a free entry.

Prizes for winners will be Weatherford chamber bucks that can be spent at any participating merchant. Overall first prize winner will receive $250 in chamber bucks, while second place winner will receive $200 in chamber bucks. Third place winner will get $150 in chamber bucks. The top runner/walker in the following age groups will receive $50 in chamber bucks: 15+, 20+, 25+, 30+, 35+, 40+, 45+, 50+, 55+, 60+ and 65+. Various other prizes will be available.

Every participant will receive a free t-shirt, and the first 200 entries will get goodie bags.
