SWOSU 5K Run and Walk Attracts 263


Lana Lacey of Norman and Clay Mayes of Weatherford were the top female and male runners at the 5th annual "Gold Tough Enough to Wear Pink 5K Run/Walk" hosted March 26 by Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

The run/walk was hosted by SWOSU students with proceeds going to the upcoming American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Cindy Dougherty, dean of students at SWOSU, said the students will raise around $5,000 from the event that attracted a record 263 runners/walkers.

Mayes won the men’s side of the race with a time of 16:30. Lacey was the top female finisher with a time of 19:09.

Other top finishers in the men's race were David Riden of Oklahoma City with a time of 17:23; Braden Davis, Elk City, 19:30; Nickolas Thomas, Harrah, 19:54; and Bradley Jennings, Weatherford, 19:57. Other top finishers in the women's race were Heather Schiete, Edmond, 20:29; Jennifer Osborn, Weatherford, 21:56; Deanna Jordan, Elk City, 22:12; and Mary Akin, Weatherford, 22:15.

Prizes were "Weatherford Chamber Bucks" in the amount of $250 for first place, $200 for second and $150 for third place.  Also, the male and female winner in each age group won $50 in Chamber Bucks, all made possible by the City of Weatherford's Hotel/Motel Tax Committee.

            Age 11-15:  Nickolas Thomas of Harrah and Emily Burgess of Weatherford

            Ages 16-19: Joshua Brock of Weatherford and Paige Doherty of Weatherford

            Ages 20-24: Clay Mayes of Weatherford and Lana Lacey of Norman

            Ages 25-29: John Leon of Hinton and Lindsey Hedrick of Binger

            Ages 30-34: Michael Moss of Sterling and Deanna Jordan of Elk City

            Ages 35-39: David Riden of Oklahoma City and Jennifer Read of Dalhart TX

            Ages 40-44: Grey Jeter of Woodward and Audrey Elledge of Tulsa  

            Ages 45-49: James Ratcliffe of Weatherford and Kim Cook of Weatherford

            Ages 50-54: Buddy Vogt of Weatherford and Lynda Wood of Weatherford

            Ages 55-59: Stan Sweeney of Hydro and Kathy Brooks of Sayre      

            Ages 60-64: Craig Mahl of Canute and Vicki Harbison of Weatherford
