SWOSU NSO Sessions Meaningful for Students and Families

OL Leaders
Members of the 2011 Orientation Leader Advisory Board at SWOSU are (from left): Mica Andrews, Dover; Tammy Hooper, Mountain View-Gotebo; Ryan Brewer, Choctaw; Myka Davis, Lookeba-Sickles; and Heather Hoock, Oklahoma City (Putnam City North). They, along with other orientation leaders, are ready to help new students at the upcoming NSO enrollment sessions.

SWOSU’s third New Student Orientation session for incoming freshmen is coming up on Wednesday, April 20.

This is the last session for the spring semester with additional sessions coming up this summer on June 13, July 21 and August 12.

Students must first apply and be accepted to SWOSU before they can attend an orientation session. Each of the orientation sessions offers students the chance to meet current SWOSU students and new freshmen, visit and enroll with a faculty advisor within the major they have selected, and have all their questions answered. They may also take campus and residence hall tours.

The students meet at 9 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center.  The program concludes around 1 p.m. when the students will pick up their class schedules for the fall semester.

Families are also invited to attend the Family Orientation that runs concurrently with the   student orientation. The families meet in the Memorial Student Center Ballroom to hear    presentations from the offices of Residence Life, Financial Aid, Student Health and Counseling Services, Violence Prevention, Auxiliary Services, Campus Police, Dean of Students, GOLD program, and Assessment (testing).

If families plan to bring younger siblings to the session, NSO provides an area to entertain them called the Dawg Zone. They can color and make crafts, play computer games and wii, or watch movies.
