SWOSU Plans New Student Orientation on June 13

Orientation Leaders
SWOSU Orientation Leaders Adriana Walker of Guymon, Tammy Hooper of Mountain View and Taler Sawatzky of Weatherford are ready to help students and families navigate at the upcoming new student orientation June 13 on the SWOSU campus in Weatherford. The SWOSU students assist with small things like pointing out where to park, answering questions and helping ease the transition from high school to college life.

Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s fourth New Student Orientation session for incoming freshmen is coming up June 13 on the Weatherford campus.

Students must first apply and be accepted to SWOSU before they can attend an orientation session. Each of the orientation sessions offers students the chance to meet current SWOSU students and new freshmen, visit and enroll with a faculty advisor within the major they have selected, and have all their questions answered. They may also take campus and residence hall tours.

The students will meet at 9 a.m. in the Fine Arts Center. The program concludes around 1 p.m. when the students pick up their class schedules for the 2011 fall semester. Families are also invited to attend the Family Orientation that runs concurrently with the student orientation. The family members meet in the Memorial Student Center Ballroom to hear presentations from the offices of Residence Life, Financial Aid, Student Health and Counseling Services, Violence Prevention, Auxiliary Services, Campus Police, Dean of Students, GOLD program and Assessment (testing).

If families plan to bring younger siblings to the session, NSO provides an area to entertain them called the Dawg Zone. The children can color and make crafts, play computer games and wii, or watch movies.
