SWOSU Orientation Leaders
Orientation Leaders (from left) Lauren Wilson, Emily Smith and John Jacob Cannedy are all smiles as they get ready to give tours to new students on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus. Giving tours is one way the OLs help students navigate at college. The NSO Office is now accepting applications for OLs.

The New Student Orientation (NSO) program at Southwestern Oklahoma State University is looking for every type of leader.

September 6-9 is Orientation Leader (OL) Recruitment Week on the Weatherford campus, and the NSO office has several events planned to help in the search. Students are invited to the following events:

  • September 6-7 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.—current OLs will be available to answer questions in the Memorial Student Center.
  • September 8 from 8-9 p.m. in Stafford Center 104—OL Super Search will allow students to get a taste of what it is like to be an OL. Students interested in becoming OLs should attend the event to meet the current OLs, and enjoy free food and fun
  • NSO will be giving “Random Rides for Recruitment” where NSO staff and current OLs give golf cart rides to classes during the four days

“Quiet, loud, outgoing, reserved, fun, or serious--we need students who want to help others and are hard workers,” said Shelby Unruh, coordinator of the NSO program. “NSO is also looking for those students who need to get ‘plugged in’ at SWOSU.”

Each year, the orientation staff selects a group of dedicated leaders to assist with implementing orientation programs during the spring, summer and fall.  OLs serve as guides for new students who are making the transition from their previous environment to the diverse academic, intellectual and social culture of SWOSU.

Applications are now available at http://www.swosu.edu/admissions/nso/team-nso.asp. The application deadline is Friday, September 23. Students may contact the NSO office at 580.774.3233 or orientation@swosu.edu with questions about the OL program.
