SWOSU Faculty Chamber Music Showcase This Thursday at PAC

The Weatherford Public Schools Performing Arts Center will play host to a SWOSU Faculty Chamber Music Showcase this Thursday, October 13, on the campus of Weatherford High School.

Before the concert, the Grand Club will unveil a plaque honoring donors for the new Steinway concert grand piano. At 7 p.m., a free concert will feature the talents of the SWOSU music faculty in a concert devoted to chamber music. The public is invited to the concert.

Dr. James South, chair of the SWOSU Music Department, said faculty members of the department of music are not only great teachers and conductors but also active professional musicians. They have degrees from some of the United State’s finest schools of music, and perform frequently with ensembles ranging from professional symphony, opera and ballet orchestras to professional chorales and opera companies. Many of the faculty members perform as soloists in regional and national conferences throughout North America and as far away as Taiwan.

“We have an amazing and truly impressive collection of talented faculty members at SWOSU,” South said. “With every recent opening, we have been able to hire fantastic young people who are virtuoso musicians, and our continuing faculty members are equally gifted.”

The concert on Thursday will contain a variety of music—a brass quartet of Renaissance dance music, Baroque masterworks, modern compositions for various combinations of instruments, and solo piano music showing off the new Steinway Concert Grand piano.

South said that everyone will find something to love in this concert. For more information, contact South at 580.774.3717.
