Former Miss America to Visit SWOSU and Weatherford

Former Miss America Jane Jayroe will have a book signing and chat with western Oklahoma residents on Sunday, November 6, in Weatherford.

The 2-3 p.m. event is being hosted by the Miss Southwestern Scholarship Board at the Renaissance 17 at 110 W. Main Street in downtown Weatherford. The public is invited to the free event.

Jayroe, who is a Clinton native and grew up in Laverne, will be signing copies of her latest devotional book, Devote Forty Days. She has written extensively about the challenges faced by women.

Jayroe enjoyed a 16-year career as a television personality and news anchor in Oklahoma City and the Dallas/Forth Worth area. She has served as Oklahoma Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and executive director of the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department.

It was in 1966 when Jayroe was crowned Miss Oklahoma and was chosen to be Miss America 1967. The third generation Oklahoman was inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame in 2007. She is married to Gerald Gamble and has one married son, two grandchildren and a feisty dog named Lily.
