SGA Elections Planned Monday, April 16, at SWOSU


Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Student Government Association will hold elections for the office of president, vice president and treasurer on Monday, April 16, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. online at D2L.

Presidential candidates are Maria Ortega, with running mate Alejandra DeSantiago, and Mary Lawless, with vice presidential candidate Mat Cooper. Treasurer candidates are Cassandra Klein and Joanie Velles.

Ortega is a native of Guymon. She is a biology major at SWOSU and has participated in SGA for four years. Ortega’s vice presidential pick, DeSantiago, is also from Guymon. She is an allied health science major and has taken part in SGA for over two years.  

Lawless is from Weatherford and is a political science major. She has been a member of SGA for four years. Lawless’s running mate, Cooper, hails from Oklahoma City. He is an elementary education major and has been involved with SGA for two years.

Klein is a pre-med major from Keokuk, Iowa. She has participated in SGA for the past year. Velles is a music education major from Wahiawa, Hawaii. She has worked in SGA for one year.

The Student Government Association is the main representative of the student body to the faculty senate and plans many activities and events on the SWOSU campus.
