SWOSU Mind Games Team Set for Semifinals Match


Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s “Mind Games” team will play a semifinal match this Sunday, January 6, on KSBI-TV.

SWOSU will face Northwestern Oklahoma State University.

The Fred Gates-coached SWOSU team won its opening contest, 690-130, over Oklahoma City Community College and defeated Rogers State University, 720-150, in a quarterfinal match.

SWOSU is the defending champion of Mind Games, an Oklahoma academic challenge competition that is a buzzer quiz game based on knowledge in all academic fields. There are competitors from 16 Oklahoma colleges and universities, and the students compete for scholarship money. KSBI has also started a high school Mind Games competition.

Gates, who is associate professor of history in the Department of Social Sciences, is in his first year as coach. Members of the SWOSU team are: Zeke Mills, Springfield MO; Jim Ferguson, Elk City; Erika Christner, Enid; Tanner Fisher, Calumet; Josh Olivera, Cordell; and Connor Holland, Duncan.
