Oklahoma Regional FTC Robotics ChampionshipThis Weekend at SWOSU


Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host the Oklahoma Regional FTC robotics championship this Friday and Saturday, March 1-2, on the Weatherford campus.

Thirty teams from across Oklahoma will be on the SWOSU campus for the “Ring it Up!” event that will have activities starting on Friday afternoon in the SWOSU Wellness Center and the Stafford Air & Space Museum. The opening ceremony will take place at 8:45 a.m. on Saturday with qualification rounds beginning at 9:30 a.m. The awards ceremony is planned for 5:30 p.m.

The public is invited and encouraged to stop by the state competition, which is sponsored by the SWOSU Departments of Engineering Technology and Computer Science and national sponsor Rockwell Collins.

Brad Fitzgerald of the SWOSU Engineering Technology Department said the teams will arrive on Friday afternoon to participate in judged interviews and for practices. High school teams comprised of 10 members each have designed, built and programmed robots to compete against other teams' robots.

Teams coming to the event are six from Oklahoma City; four teams from Tulsa; two teams from Mustang, Verdigris and Owasso; and one each from Ada, Altus, Ardmore, Lomega, Weatherford, Kingfisher, Elgin, Okarche, Burns Flat, Macomb, Sapulpa, Muskogee, Meeker, and Haileyville.

The state event is made possible by SWOSU, NASA, City of Weatherford Hotel/Motel Tax Fund, Stafford Air & Space Museum, Society of Manufacturing Engineers and Society of Women Engineers.
