Museum Committee Busy Setting Up SWOSU Main Street Location

A museum committee has been formed to set up the Southwestern Oklahoma State University Museum that will be headquartered in the SWOSU Main Street Building in Weatherford.

Committee members are: Laura Endicott, Tom Fagan, John Hays, Joe Anna Hibler, Mike Kerley, Jerry Nye and Rick Skinner. The committee has already met several times and has consulted with Oklahoma Historical Society Executive Director and SWOSU Distinguished Alumnus Dr. Bob Blackburn.

SWOSU Main Street Building, located at 210 W. Main Street, is the current home of the Weatherford Area Chamber of Commerce. The museum will be located at the back of the building and will display artworks and artifacts reflecting the history and growth of SWOSU. The official opening has not been determined, but announcements will be made on the SWOSU website and in area media outlets.

“The building is a beautiful addition to Main Street and we are excited about the future SWOSU museum that will be easily accessible to the general public,” SWOSU President Randy Beutler said. “This project takes a lot of work, and we appreciate the willingness of this excellent committee to lead the way.”

SWOSU has many possibilities for the museum, and displays will be continuously changed out and updated. The committee welcomes donations and artifacts with a SWOSU flair. To make donations of items, please contact the SWOSU President’s Office at 580.774.3766.
