Sauer and Shryock to Represent SWOSU at Miss Oklahoma Pageants

Southwestern Oklahoma State University senior Tia Sauer of Weatherford and Shattuck High School senior Ashlee Shryock will represent Southwestern Oklahoma State University at the Miss Oklahoma Pageant, which is June 1-8 in Tulsa. 

Sauer won the title of Miss SWOSU last fall on the Weatherford campus and will be among 46 contestants competing for the Miss Oklahoma title, while Shryock will represent SWOSU in the Miss Oklahoma’s Outstanding Teen Pageant. She won the Miss SWOSU’s Outstanding Teen title this past fall and will be among 34 contestants vying for the state title.

Sauer will compete in the Mu group at Miss Oklahoma. For her talent on Wednesday evening, she will do a jazz dance to Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend.

She will also compete throughout the week in other preliminary competitions including interview on Monday morning, swimsuit on Tuesday evening, and on-stage question and evening wear on Thursday night. Preliminaries begin each evening at 7:30 p.m.  The finals will be Saturday night (June 8) at 7:30 p.m. at the Mabee Center in Tulsa. The winner of the pageant advances to the Miss America Pageant.

Sauer’s platform issue is “Hometown Proud”, reflecting on the pride she has in her hometown.

Shryock will compete in the Alpha group. Her interview is on Tuesday and her active wear and on-stage question/evening wear competition is Thursday. Her talent competition is on Friday. She will sing a character vocal to Popular. Her platform is “Get the E.D.G.E.—Excellence Developed and Grown through Extracurriculars,” emphasizing the need for involvement.

The teen pageant finals will be held on Friday night (June 7) at 7:30 p.m. at the Mabee Center.

Also accompanying Sauer to this year’s pageant will be 7-year-old Paige Robison of Weatherford who is an Oklahoma Star for the Miss SWOSU Pageant.

The Oklahoma Star mentoring program is designed to expose girls ages 5-11 to outstanding young women as role models. Robison will be on stage with Sauer on Thursday evening. Robison is the daughter of Kim and Shelby Robison of Weatherford.
