Montreal Based Trumpet Player Performs September 27 at SWOSU

Montreal based trumpet player Christopher Smith will perform Friday, September 27 at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Smith, utility trumpet of the OrchestreSymphonique De Montréal, will be featured in recital at 7 p.m. in the Berrong Recital Hall on the SWOSU campus. The public is invited and admission is free.

Smith will also conduct a master class at 1:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium. Admission is free and the public is invited.

SWOSU Assistant Professor of Trumpet and Jazz Studies Dr. Richard Tirk will host the event and perform with Smith on the recital.  Music will include works by Antheil, Ketting, Holley, Francaix, and a piccolo trumpet duet by baroque composer Petronio Franceschini. Assisting Tirk and Smith will be newly-appointed SWOSU Instructor of Piano and Music Therapy Lu-Ling Chen on piano.  

Smith, a native of Michigan, was also a member of the United States “President’s Own” Marine Band in Washington D.C. for eight years and assistant principal trumpet of the Seattle Symphony Orchestra for one season.
