BSA to Host Screening of Lee Daniels' The Butler

A screening of Lee Daniels’ The Butler will be shown Thursday, February 13, at 9:30 p.m. on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

The SWOSU Black Student Association is hosting the event in the west ballroom on the second floor of the Memorial Student Center. The event is free for all students and the general public, and the BSA will provide free popcorn and drinks.

BSA Historian Alfa Abame said the movie screening is planned as a celebration of Black History Month. The movie will follow the SWOSU basketball games that are being played that night.

Lee Daniels’ The Butler, starring Forest Whitaker and Oprah Winfrey, is the 2013 film about a White House butler who served eight American presidents over three decades. The film traces the dramatic changes that swept American society during this time, from the civil rights movement to Vietnam and beyond, and how those changes affected this man’s life and family.
