The event starts at 3 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the Campbell Building. Twenty teams are expected to compete in the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association (OSSAA) event.

Friday’s agenda will consist of Team Debate and Lincoln Douglas Debate, while Saturday will have individual events including: Dramatic Duet, Dramatic Interpretation, Domestic and Foreign Extemporaneous Speech, Humorous Duet, Humorous Interpretation, Monologue, Original Oratory, Poetry, Prose and Standard Oratory.

According to Dr. Robin Jones, chair of the department, the judges for the competition are the school’s coaches and SWOSU students.

The awards ceremony will be held in the Hilltop Theatre on Saturday at approximately 1:30 p.m. Medals will be awarded to first, second and third place winners for the individual events. Students receiving a first, second, or third place medal are then qualified for the Southwest Regional competition held at SWOSU on March 28-29. The three schools in both 3A and 4A competition with the most points will be given sweepstakes awards.

Volunteers for judging are encouraged and welcomed. If someone would like to be a judge for the competition, contact Dr. Jones at 580.774.3080 or robin.jones@swosu.edu
