Southwestern Oklahoma State University’s Department of Education (DOE), along with Oklahoma’s Ag in the Classroom (AIC) program, will host the second annual STAMPEDE on Friday, April 25, in the Wellness Center on the Weatherford campus.

More than 150 fourth graders from Weatherford’s West Elementary will take part in STAMPEDE ’14 with teachers from West Elementary, teachers from the surrounding area, and teacher candidates from SWOSU’s DOE.  The program starts at 8:45 a.m.

Students will rotate through 9 agricultural commodity group booths, or “stalls,” set up in the “Bulldog Barn.” The presentations will feature interactive learning in an exciting environment. New to the event this year is the Southwest Dairy Farmers Mobile Dairy Classroom. Students will view a live milking cow demonstration.

The teachers and teacher candidates will attend professional development sessions and then join the students for observations.

SWOSU Coordinator of Student Teaching and Field Experience Bruce Belanger said STAMPEDE ‘14 offers a unique experience for students, teachers, teacher candidates, and university instructors and professors to interact and learn together.

Agricultural commodities participating include: AIC, Custer County 4H, Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma Soybean Board, OSU Cooperative Extension Service and Weatherford High School FFA, OSU Department of Horticulture, Southwest Dairy Farmers and Triple S Farms.
