Southwestern Oklahoma State University students Jackie Bivins of Beggs and Lori Webb of Sayre have been awarded scholarships from the American Association of University Women  branch in Weatherford.

Both Bivins and Webb were presented with a $300 Nancy McClain Honorary Scholarship. The Weatherford branch awards annual scholarships to female undergraduate SWOSU students who display scholarly and extracurricular excellence plus are in need of financial support.

Bivins is a senior majoring in psychology with a minor in alcohol and chemical dependency counseling. She is active on multiple intramural teams, is a tutor in the SWOSU Psychology Department and is the SWOSU Psychology Club president.  She is also a psychology research team leader for extreme values and career decidedness. After graduation, Bivins plans to pursue a master’s degree and then a Ph.D. in clinical psychology.

Webb is a senior English education student.  She is an active member of the Student Oklahoma Education Association, Sigma Tau Delta, the Young Women’s Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and is the current president of the SWOSU English Club.  Webb will complete her student teaching assignment this spring in Cheyenne.

AAUW membership is open to all individuals who have completed a college/university degree (associate, bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate).  Current college students are eligible for a free student e-affiliate membership. The AAUW Weatherford branch meets once each month, September through April, to conduct educational, community service and social activities.  The organization also hosts the SWOSU Tech Trek summer math & science camp for girls entering the 8th grade.

The next meeting will be January 23, at 12 noon when student Nallely Aguilar will present about her experiences at last year’s AAUW National Conference for College Women Student Leaders.
